Is the cost of follow-up medication included in the treatment price?
Yes! The treatment price includes the cost of all of the standard follow up medications that you are prescribed
on the night of the treatment. There are no additional charges.
I have a certain medical condition, can I receive the treatment?
Prospective patients who have acute-angle glaucoma or are pregnant cannot receive
our treatment. If you have a specific medical condition other than listed above,
you should ask your treating physician to review our
Medical Protocol.
I am taking prescription or over-the-counter medications, can I receive the treatment?
Individuals on multiple anti-depressant, anti-anxiety, seizure or chronic pain medications are not
good candidates for this treatment. However, depending on the individual situation it is up to the
treating physician and his discretion. In addition, a waiver acknowledging from your current physician
the condition and the use of this treatment is required for the ICAN treating physician. Please review our
Medical Protocol.
Is the treatment covered by insurance?
On the night of your treatment you will receive an itemized receipt containing all of
the applicable insurance codes to assist you in submitting a claim to your insurance
company. However, this treatment is an elective procedure that is not covered by most
insurance.
Is the treatment covered by Medicare/Medicaid?
No. Currently, the ICAN treatment is not covered by Medicare or Medicaid.
How long does the treatment take?
The treatment should take no more than an hour and a half.
What do I need to do prior to the treatment?
We cannot over emphasize the necessity for you to address the physical and behavioral/psychological
aspects of your addiction in advance of your treatment. It is important that you review the
Treatment Info. (Please Read) page for important information on the procedures and action needed
by you before and after the procedure. As well, be certain to review and apply the suggestions
contained on our Behavior Modification page.
By combining the ICAN treatment with the information contained on the
Behavior Modification page
our treatment will provide you with an unmatched level of success in breaking your nicotine addiction!
What happens on the night of the treatment?
On the night of the treatment, after you sign in you will need to complete a few medical forms, pay for the balance of the
ICAN treatment if applicable, and watch a video presentation. Thereafter, you will be escorted to a private treatment room and given a physical evaluation as well as an EKG and a pulmonary lung function test.
A doctor will review your medical history and the results of your physical evaluation. If everything is in order, you will receive one injection of the medication in your arm and after a check for proper response to the medication, one needle-free injection of the medication behind each of ear.
After treatment has been administered, you will receive all of your follow-up medications, prescribing information, and an additional set of post treatment instructions. You will then be escorted to the waiting room where your driver will be waiting to drive you home.
Your driver should drive you straight home and assist you in settling in for the evening. Because of the treatments side effects, do not engage in any activities on the night of your treatment other than settling into bed for a good night’s rest.
Please eat a light meal before the treatment and bring a bottle of water to drink afterwards.
Does the treatment have any side effects?
Yes. Immediately following the ICAN treatment many patients will experience side
effects typical of anticholinergics, such as, lightheadedness, dizziness or difficulty
focusing. Additionally, patients typically experience dry mouth and urinary retention.
These effects usually dissipate in 6 to 8 hours.
Patient complaints of altered taste
and smell, however, can persist for approximately 24 hours. Treated patients are
not to drive for 12 hours or drink alcohol while taking the follow-up medications.
Will I be able to go to work the next day?
Yes. In most cases the significant effects
of the medications dissipate in 6 to 8 hours and you should have no difficulty in
returning to work the day after your treatment.
I feel great, do I need to keep taking my follow-up medication?
Yes. Even though you may feel better than you have
in years and are not experiencing any nicotine withdrawal symptoms, you should continue
taking your follow up medication after the treatment as instructed until they are
completely gone.
What if I start smoking again?
At ICAN, we understand that sometimes life throws you a curve that you just weren’t expecting – a
death in the family, divorce or job loss for example. Whatever the reason, we know that a few people
may succumb to these stressful situations and begin smoking again. Don’t worry. At ICAN, we understand,
and we stand behind our treatment. Should you relapse and start using tobacco again within one year of your
treatment, ICAN will retreat you for only the cost of the medication and the treating physician’s visit.
You have nothing to lose . . . except your addiction to nicotine!
